"I'd say you have a head start there with the proposal and all," Grayson told Matt the next day. They leaned on a corral fence and watched Grayson's prized horses. "Unfortunately, you didn't quite say it right."

"I figured," Matt said and looked at the man. Grayson's brown hair was pulled back with a strip of leather as he always wore it long past his shoulders. Since children, his mother always cut Bronson's hair, unlike Grayson who always wore his long. No one questioned it. It was accepted that Elizabeth Cole had good reason, as the twins’ hair had been the one way she'd been able to distinguish who was who.

"I'm not good with words," Matt stated the obvious.

Grayson let out a breath. "Neither am I truthfully. I am not proud of my past. I didn't respect women the way I should. I took out the loss of my first wife on them. Not an excuse, just stating facts."

They watched the horses for a long moment before Grayson spoke again. "I met Kathryn, she came to Sunday supper. Lovely lady. You would do good to marry her. Why don't you plan a picnic? I did that once with Nora."

"Went well?"

"No we had a fight. Only because I insulted her, but you won't do that."

Matt considered the idea. It had merit and he knew the perfect place. "I suppose conversation would be part of it."

"Yep. Talk about the weather and horses."

With a plan for spending an afternoon with her, Matt headed back to his land. His lips curved as an idea formed.
